Okay, you didn’t get into an Ivy League school. But that’s okay! Now you can dress like you went to an Ivy League school. Harvard–as in Harvard University–has joined forces with clothing manufactuer Wearwolf Group to design a new men’s clothing line called Harvard Yard.

According to BlackBook.com, the ready-to-wear line is based on classic Ivy League style, meaning “short-sleeve plaid shirts, Liberty print wovens, seersucker shorts, regimental stripes, sporty knits, patterned jackets and fancy pants—all in a contemporary, tapered fit.” Inspiration for the line came from photos of students relaxing in Harvard Yard in the 1960s. Prices will range from $165 for pants and $495 for sport coats.

And these clothes aren‘t just for current students; John Fowler, Creative Director of Harvard Yard, hopes the preppy style will garner global appeal.

What’s next?! Columbia Clothes? Princeton Pajamas? Dartmouth Dungarees?!

What do you think–would YOU wear these clothes?

Fashion Debate: The Maxi Dress

the maxi dress--hot or not?

the maxi dress--hot or not?

The maxi dress—long on style or short on sexy? In a recent article, the New York Post debates the hotness factor of the latest fashion staple.

In it, Kyle Smith, a straight guy living in New York City, pleads for cute young women everywhere to “burn your maxi dresses.” He calls them the “urban burqa” and claims they turn a trim woman into a “tent” and a large woman into a “mountain”. He wants to see the goods, and the maxi dress just ain’t cuttin’ it.

Raakhee Mirchandani, on the other hand, argues that maxi dresses are chic, polished, and comfortable. She says that sometimes, covering up is the best defense against men who “stare so hard we feel naked, especially when they loudly wax poetic about our bangin’ assets.” She wants to meet a man who realizes that a woman in a long dress is “bad-ass”.

Who’s right?

As a woman, I have to side with Mirchandani on this one. Maxi dresses are extremely classy, comfortable, and easy to wear. I don’t know why Smith thinks maxi can’t be sexy—I’ve seen women wear the floor-grazing dresses so tight that very little is left to the imagination. And let’s not forget that many maxi dresses are designed with low, bust-baring necklines. Isn’t that enough? They’re not for everyone, but done right, maxi dresses can be so hot they’re the epitome of summer cool.

What do YOU think? Is the maxi dress sexy? Or sex-less?
