The 90′s are BACK!
The 90′s are back but in the best possible way!
As a child born in the late 80′s and raised in the 90′s I feel it is my duty, nay, my honor to share with you the joy that Nickelodeon gave to me in my childhood years (dramatic much?). This week Teen Nick launched “90′s Are All That” promoting the late night 90′s shows that are now back at Nickelodeon. These shows include: All That, Kenan & Kel, Clarissa Explains It All, and Doug (a personal favorite).
It is rumored that the executives over at Nick are open to suggestions for other 90′s favorites to be added to the late night list. Personally, I wouldn’t mind Rugrats, CatDog, Hey Arnold!, The Secret World of Alex Mack, or my favorite, Are You Afraid of the Dark?, to be added to the line-up.
Did I stay up late last night giggling like the child I was over the epic shorts from All That?
You bet your bottom dollar I did!
If you are like myself, and many other kids of the 90′s, then what are some of your favorite shows from way back when?
Happy National Kissing Day
Kiss: to express a thought, feeling, love, passion, etc., by a contact of the lips.
Today is National Kissing Day (or International Kissing Day) so grab someone and lay a big smackeroo on them. It is said to be originally started in the United Kingdom however it was quickly adopted by the rest of the world because, hey, who doesn’t love a good smooch on the lips? Let us appreciate the intimacy we get from a good kiss and not take one for granted by participating in this treasured day for years to come.
Take this as a reminder, or perhaps a warning to some of you, that kissing will be occurring and it may happen to you.
In the mean time enjoy this collection of famous kisses from the past.
“A kiss can be a comma, a question mark or an exclamation point.
That’s basic spelling that every woman ought to know.”
Mistinguett (Jeanne Bourgeois), Theatre Arts, December 1955
“A kiss is a lovely trick designed by nature to stop speech when words become superfluous.”
Ingrid Bergman
More Potter?
Since 1997, when thousands became enchanted on a search for a Sorcerer’s Stone, to 2010, when millions followed the beginning of an adventure throughout the wizard world to find hidden horcruxes, Harry Potter has been a billion dollar hit for author J.K. Rowling. The adventure finally concludes, with the second half of The Deathly Hallows, on June 15th… or so we thought.
A few weeks ago, Rowling posted a video on Youtube, a website called pottermore.com, as well as a twitter account for the new mysterious site. They all had owls standing on a sign that read ‘coming soon…’ and fans waited for her to release the mystery project that she has been working on.
I grew up with Harry Potter and to me, this was the end of an era. Between reading the books in a day when they were first released, to being so excited to be “old enough” in my mom’s eyes to go to the midnight release of the 4th book, and secretly wishing for my own letter from Hogwarts, I grew up with Harry, Herminone, and Ron, much like many people my age did. This final movie was known to be the end of it for all of us… until “Pottermore” appeared and left questions of what Rowling was planning.
Today, ‘soon’ arrived and J.K. Rowling revealed the project through a video on Youtube. Pottermore.com, opening to fans in October, is a virtual world of Harry Potter. Those interested can create their own character, get a wand, and be placed in a House at Hogwarts, something people have longed to be able to do for 14 years now. Rowling has written new material not included in the books for the site about characters and locations well known to fans of the Potter series. In addition, she will be releasing the seven books in the e-book format, only on her website, for the first time.
While I have been a fan of the series for most of my life, I’m not going to be running to sign up to play in a virtual Harry Potter world. However, I am glad that she is releasing this site as a way for more children to become as involved in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter as I have!
It Books and HarperCollinsCanada Acquire Book by Superstar Blogger Kelly Oxford
It Books and HarperCollinsCanada, imprints of HarperCollins Publishers, have just jointly acquired a book by blogger and Twitter superstar Kelly Oxford. The book is scheduled to be published in the summer of 2012.
Oxford is a wife and mother of three who lives in Calgary. A blogger since the 1990s, she has a wide and growing following on Twitter, and her vocal fans include Roger Ebert, Jessica Alba, Jimmy Kimmel, Tony Hawk, Diablo Cody, Kevin Nealon, Susan Orlean, Ann Curry, Adam McKay, Mindy Kaling, Steve Nash, and Jonathan Ames. In March 2010, she performed alongside Ben Stiller, Ashton Kutcher, Will Ferrell, and other celebrities in A Night of 140 Tweets, a fundraising event for Haitian earthquake relief in LA, which brought together the biggest names on Twitter. Her Tumblr has received more than 2 million hits in the last nine months alone.
Last month, Oxford sold a sitcom based on her life, to be called The Mother of All Something, to CBS Studios with Jessica Alba and Jhoni Marchinko (Will & Grace) both attached to produce.
Oxford’s book will tell her story through a series of side-splitting essays touching on episodes throughout her life, from her childhood (when she wrote her first play in grade school, a classmate screamed, “DO YOU THINK YOU’RE THE QUEEN OF THE WORLD OR SOMETHING?”), to her days as an aspiring model (“I was 5’6″ and 80 pounds. Up to this point my middle school fame had mostly come from my Steve Urkel and Kids in the Hall “Chicken Lady” impressions”).
Much of the book will be devoted to her life today as a wife and mom, familiar to her fans through the blog posts and tweets that have made her famous (“Had my son’s hearing tested because he’s always yelling. Turns out he’s just an asshole”; “When my daughter was three I told her where meat comes from: ‘I love piggies so much more now that I know they taste like bacon’”).
Legendary film critic Roger Ebert has said of Oxford, “She’s bitingly funny, but everybody knows that. Didn’t the man write in the play, ‘We laugh, that we may not cry?’ That may provide insight into why she’s funny.”
“I couldn’t be happier that my book is coming out before the Mayan Calendar ends,” said Oxford. “I hope it’s the last thing everyone reads.”
Lady Gaga shot by Nick Knight
All the blogs and the Facebooks and the Twitters and the hashtags #bornthiswayfriday are all a buzzing today with the release of the cover to Lady Gaga’s long awaited Born this Way. Since she debuted a small portion of the title track at the VMAs in December her fans have been desperate for more information about the song and the album.

But we’re here to talk about Nick Knight, the famed British fashion photographer. Having already shot for the world’s top designers, Alexander McQueen, Calvin Klein, Christian Dior, Levi Strauss, Yohji Yamamoto. Yves Saint Laurent it only seems natural that he’d turn his lens toward Gaga. Knight’s image is sure to be one of the most viewed photograph of the decade. He recently published a midcareer retrospective of his work, from 1990 to the present day, called Nick Knight. Looking through the pages of his book you can see many similarities with the way he has captured Gaga and the transition of his work over the past twenty years.

8 is enough
As I predicted, the news of the Elizabeth Taylor/Jason Winters engagement proved to be false. The star tweeted today that the rumors surrounding the couple, “simply aren’t true.” She added, “Jason is my manager and dearest friend. I love him with all my heart.”
Well, that solves that. It’s nice to see that she can still get us all excited.
We love you, Elizabeth Taylor!
Plugged Out

I know you usually spend Friday nights catching up on all the Your It List reading you missed during the hectic week, but we’re going to ask you to make an exception tonight. Sure, it may be ironic, but this blog–a blog that relies on modern technology to pay the bills–is asking you to switch all that tech stuff off for 24 hours.
Starting at sundown today, the folks at the Sabbath Manifesto are asking all of us to observe a National Day of Unplugging. Yep, that means no phone, no computers, no Blackberrys, no Sidekicks until the sun sets on Saturday. None of that stuff that is turning our brains to oatmeal and shrinking our attention spans to nil. Hell, half of you probably didn’t even read this far (word #132) into this post. For those of you who did, I challenge you to watch this how-to video (all 3 minutes of it!) from beginning to end:
Now hurry up and make plans with your friends and loved ones for tonight and tomorrow, because there shall be no Twitter, no Foursquare and no texting for 24 whole hours. Perhaps this movement will re-kindle the age old tradition of booty telegramming. Only time will tell.
Welcome to the Museum of Modern Tweets

A new website, which bills itself as the Museum of Modern Tweets, pairs celebrities’ laughable Twitter posts (such as John Mayer’s “Christmas on December 25 is merely a suggestion. It can come anytime between the 25 and 1. And it’s happening now.”) with illustrations designed to mock them. The website just got off the ground but already includes hilarious tributes to the twitterature of A-listers like Ryan Seacrest, Martha Stewart, and Nick Jonas. Definitely worth a few minutes of your daily allotment of procrastination time.
Badder Romance
Continuing Youritlist’s ongoing Lady Gaga coverage, I’m happy to share more evidence of Gaga’s fabulousness.
A group of dedicated fans have made a hilarious parody of the singer’s excellent “Bad Romance video.” The production value leaves something to be desired, but Gaga herself approved the remake via Twitter, stating simply: Holy S**t. Enjoy below.
Our Favor!te Things 2009: Camilla Morton

We’ve been informed that the end of 2009 is just around the corner, and since absolutely no one else is offering “Best Of” lists, we decided to fill the void. Between now and the new year, expect year-end favor!tes from our friends in the world of fashion, music, comedy, film and literature.
Today’s inaugural Favor!te Things 2009 list comes from the delightful Camilla Morton, fashion writer, author and arbiter of good taste.
Without further ado, Camilla Morton’s Favor!te Things 2009:
Favor!te Film: I am literally besides myself with excitement to see WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE but until then THE SEPTEMBER ISSUE gives a slice of the day job.
Favor!te Album: I like songs and then jam them on repeat but do like a good Disney Sing along – Cinderella, “Someday My Prince will Come”– great way to start the day… I am more of a hummer than a album collector… I also shift music tastes like the wind, as the mood changes so do I…
Favor!te Book: It’s not a new release – I will have to think with that – but a book that I never travel or leave home without, and, in my opinion, is the most charming story ever is The Ordinary Princess, by MM Kaye. It’s out of print but worth the hunt.
Favor!te Work of Art: The Christmas Tree at Claridge’s designed by John Galliano… viewed as you have afternoon tea there… I agree with Spencer Tracy who said, “I don’t want to go to Heaven I want to go to Claridge’s.”

Claridge's Christmas Tree by John Galliano for Dior
Favor!te Designer:
Who can you ever choose between John Galliano and Manolo Blahnik? The two go together like tea and scones…
Favor!te TV show:
My guilty pleasure is the English Soap Opera Eastenders – you think you’ve had a bad day, and twenty minutes of this you feel glad to be you… love a bit of East end misery on Albert Square and Christmas isn’t Christmas without a trip to see how theirs goes wrong (death and damnation and all before the turkey has been so much as sliced).
Favor!te Blog/Website:
I am a fashion junkie:
www.style.com, www.net-a-porter.com, www.topshop.com, www.mrpaparrazzi.com
I would love to say my own website but I can never remember the password to log in and write the blog so that is NEXT year’s resolution…
Favor!te Real Housewife:
My mum makes it look easy – my Ukraninan cleaning lady overly complex, I have however aimed to perfect the art of the every night takeout. (editor’s note: it’s refreshing to see that Real Housewives of X is one trashy American obsession that hasn’t made it to the UK!)
Favor!te Twitterer: It’s not become the compulsive acquired taste in the UK but I did use it once to stalk someone during the shows to see if they were coming to ours…
Favor!te You Tube Video:
SO many
Cinderella – the Slipper and the Rose – and how to make an entrance
Pretty in Pink – trying a little tenderness – and why do the ones you like never like you?? Why is it always so hard?!?!?
Devil Wears Prada because it makes me appreciate my job today soooo much…

Tweet World meet Real World

As loyal readers of Your It List already know, we’ve just published Nick Douglas’s Twitter Wit: Brilliance in 140 Characters or Less (hey, we’re still waiting for your iPod-worthy video submission. Get on it!). In honor of Nick and his hundreds of twitty contributors, Brooklyn’s powerHouse Arena is hosting a launch party this Thursday, September 10. The Wittiest Twitter

In honor of today’s publication of TWITTER WIT: Brilliance in 140 Characters or Less edited by Nick Douglas, we’re excited to announce a video contest offering you a chance to win an iPod touch. It’s pretty darn simple, actually, and a lot of fun (unless you really hate making short videos; in that case it’ll be a nightmare). You just go here, pick your favorite tweet, make a short video, send it to us, and wait on pins and needles. In the meantime, since your video is definitely the best one, we’d suggest making a list of all the great music and apps and videos you’re going to add to the shuffle once you win it. Oh, and you’ll want to browse inside TWITTER WIT too. And buy it.
the moment you’ve all been waiting for
and by “you all,” I of course, mean me.
The note cards have arrived.
My lovely cards from Gibson Lane Studios are here! I will be taking the rest of the afternoon off to write notes to people and Jack. I’ve already had to hide them for fear of theft.
In news of other things that bring me pleasure, I found this on a site that I’m not likely to visit again. It combines my unabashed love of musicals and my love/hate relationship with social networking. genius. A twitter musical is not far away.
Speaking of musicals (sort of), have you entered this contest yet? becuase you should.
On the Internet, everybody knows you’re a cat.

Jack, not twittering. (photo: Joseph Papa)
Cats are twittering. Yes, that’s what I said. There are a lot of cats using twitter.
Some examples:
mommy and daddy went away last weekend, and now they’re going away again this weekend. i should punish them by peeing on their bed.
i got to play with my string this morning. today is already awesome.
i think i’d be good at the french horn.
the number one thing
that people say about me: that i’m so soft.
Today mommy cut Cathy cartoons out and hung them on the fridge.
Ha ha, I just made that last one up. And I’m not really that mean. If he had the time, my cat Jack would twitter, too.
I wonder if Twitter Wit: The Cat Edition is far behind …
